Lebanon fossils!
The lagerstatte of Lebanon is famous for well preserved fish, invertebrates,
plants, and flying reptiles. Workers there quarry through tons of limestone to
pull up slabs of marine animals. Fossils tend to be very well preserved and
sometimes includes soft-body preservation details such as the skin of sharks and
even the soft tentacles of cephalopods. The fossils are middle Cretaceous in
age, around 95 million years old, give or take 3 mil. In recent times, fossil
exports from Lebanon has been slowed down due to conflict in the region and new
export laws. Most of the ones you see here are from an old estate collection
that was cleared out in June. Remember, there is absolutely no restoration to
these specimens, no coloring or touchups, just some repaired cracks.
