Squid split pair
A rather remarkably preserved squid from Hakel, Lebanon. Others have
identified it as a colenoid with the species being Doratheuthis sp, Rachiteuthis
sp, or something similar.
The preservation of the gladius (pen) is rather
remarkable, as well as the waving tentacles, ink sack, and eye spots.
Size: Squid main body measures 7 cm and then goes upwards with head and
tentacles for another 6 cm. Matrix measures 12.5 x 14.5 cm.
Location: Hakel, Lebanon,
Age: Middle Cretaceous, Cennomanian (95 million years old)
