Diptera: Flies, Midges, Gnats
Ya, these guys are annoying yet elegant, and much easier to collect when
they're dead and fossilized.
Specimen DPT-01
Size: 5 mm wingspan

Other pics:

I believe the fellow on the upper left is some sort of Diptera, and probably the
one in the lower right as well. The critter in the center is probably a
beetle. The antennae and wing structure on the top
one may be useful for identification.
Specimen DPT-02
Size: 4 mm each

Other pics:

Here's a little swarm of midges! Or more like, a bunch of midges died and were
washed out and collected in one spot, possibly because they settled in a shallow
depression or such. Possibly several species on this piece.
Specimen DPT-03
Size: 2-6mm each

Other pics:

Here's another swarm piece with some 120+ midges and flies of various species.
The insects probably collected within a shallow depression. Very good
preservation.
Specimen DPT-04
Size: 4 mm

This is a closeup of a couple of interesting midges on piece BLT-03 in the
Blattodea section. Very distinctive
abdomen.

Specimen DPT-05
Size: 5mm

Random piece (in orthoptera section) with a beetle, an ant, and two interesting
flies.
Specimen DPT-06
Size: 6 mm wingspan

Other pics:

A very nicely placed midge with good wing venation detail.
Specimen DPT-07
Size: 3 mm

Other pics:

Another swarm piece with a variety of diptera and other orders.
Specimen DPT-08
Size: 6 mm wingspan

Other pics:

This piece has three individual flies, probably of the same species.
DPT-09

A neat mosquito on the right side, not sure what the thing on the left side
is.
DPT-10
